Five ways in, depending on whether you want the overall best pair, a lens for a specific sport, the science behind the tint, or the right frame for your face.

  • Best Sunglasses

The flagship roundup — our overall best picks across every category, with live prices.

  • Sport & Activity Sunglasses

The right lens and frame change by activity — glare off the water for fishing, contrast on the green for golf, grip and weight for running. Roundups for each, with the tint reasoning behind every pick.

  • Lens & Tech Guide

The science behind the marketing — polarization, lens tints, UV standards and how VLT decides which lens suits which light. Plain-language explainers, each cited to the standard or the authority.

  • Fit & Face Shape

The frame that flatters your face and the one that fits over your prescription glasses. Fit rules by face shape, plus roundups for round faces and fitting over eyeglasses.

  • Brand Reviews

Even-handed, spec-first reviews of the sunglasses brands people search before they buy — real pros, real cons, and who each brand is (and isn't) for.

Why trust a site that hasn’t field-tested anything?

Because we don’t pretend otherwise. Plenty of “we tested 30 pairs” roundups didn’t, and can’t prove they did. Here is what we do instead — and it’s checkable.

We read the spec sheet, not the marketing

Every pick is reasoned from the published lens specs — polarization, UV rating, lens material and tint — and cited to the maker or the standard, not to a claim we can't verify.

Prices are live and dated

Numbers come from a daily Amazon check and carry the date they were pulled. If the check stops, the price disappears rather than going stale.

“Not published” is a finding

When a brand won't state a lens's polarization or UV rating, we print “Not published” rather than guessing. What a brand hides is information too.

We say when to skip

A pricier pair isn't automatically better. Where a cheaper option wins for the buyer, that's our pick — commission never decides it.

The lens science, in plain English

We explain polarization, VLT, lens tints and UV standards so you can audit the reasoning behind a pick — cited to the AAO, FDA and WHO.

No fake reviews, ever

There are no invented testimonials, star ratings or before-and-afters anywhere on this site. If we can't source it, it isn't here.

The one number we’re proud of: zero pairs we claim to have field-tested. Here is exactly what we do instead.

How this site is funded

Shade & Temple is free to read because some of the links to products are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. It never changes which pair we recommend — the reasoning is the same whether a link earns us anything or not.
