Editorial Policy
The standards every page on this site is held to — and the things we will never do.
Independence
Shade & Templeis editorially independent. Brands do not pay for coverage, placement, or a better verdict, and we do not accept free products in exchange for a review. Our recommendations are based on published specs and honest buyer fit, not on which link pays the most. How we’re funded is spelled out on our affiliate disclosure page.
No fabrication, ever
This is the rule that outranks all the others. We never invent reviews, testimonials, star ratings, review counts, or before-and-after claims — there are none anywhere on this site. We never fabricate a spec or a price. When a brand doesn’t publish a figure, we print “Not published” instead of guessing. And we never claim to have field-tested or lab-tested sunglasses we haven’t — our methodology is spec-first, and we say so.
Balanced verdicts
Every roundup pick and brand review lists genuine trade-offs and a “skip this if” — never all-positive. A recommendation that hides a product’s downsides isn’t useful, and it isn’t honest.
Sourced claims
Factual lens-science and eye-health claims — how polarization works, what UV does to the eye, what UV400 means — are attributed to published authorities such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the FDA, the World Health Organization, the CDC and Prevent Blindness. Product specs are cited to the retailer or brand listing, with the date we read them. Guides end with a Sources list so you can check our work.
Live, dated prices
Prices are never written into an article. They are pulled live from the retailer and stamped with the date; stale prices expire and fall back to “Check price.” Always confirm the current price on the retailer’s site.
Corrections
We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we fix it and note that we did. If you spot an error — a spec, a claim, a figure that doesn’t match the source — tell us. We check it against the listing, and if you’re right, we correct it.
Updates
Roundups and reviews carry a “last updated” date and are refreshed as models change and prices move. Lens-science guides are reviewed when standards or the underlying evidence change.
Not eye-care advice
Shade & Temple is written by an enthusiast, not an optometrist, and nothing here is medical or eye-care advice. For an eye exam, a prescription, or a concern about your vision, see a qualified eye-care professional.
